Educational complex Zoodo

Leerlingen voor ingang onderwijscomplex Zoodo

In 2006, WOL and DSF began with the realization of educational complex Zoodo in Ouahigouya, the capital of the province Yatenga in Burkina Faso. Purpose of the complex is to extend the educational opportunities and improving the quality of education. On Zoodo a continuous line of education is offered for children between 6 and 16 years (compulsory education). After primary school, youngsters are able to get general education (college and high school) or vocational education.
Youngsters who had no chance to get primary education, or failed to get their primary school diploma, will get a second chance and can follow evening classes at Zoodo. The evening classes can be combined with training at the complex.
Zoodo regularly offers courses for all parties involved in education and the development process in the region. There are refresher courses for teachers and school directors. DSF is training men and women to literacy workers. These trainers educate the rural population in the region and train them in managing development projects and income generating activities. Young people are trained to provide information to children and prevention of HIV, forced marriage, genital mutilation of girls and teenage pregnancies.
Zoodo Education Complex is still under development but already has a vibrant school community. This school year (2011-2012) we have 660 students on the complex, spread over 17 classes. Annually hundreds of youngsters and adults get a course or training at Zoodo. In the coming years, the complex will be expanded further, to give more children, youth and adults an opportunity to improve their education and to work towards the development of the community.
On our list for expansion is still: a workshop / warehouse for engineering courses, a physics classroom, chemistry and biology for college, more vocational training.

Burkina's primary school is basically free of charge. The resources available at the schools are very limited. Parents must themselves buy additional school material. Many parents are unable to do so. By providing them  with  a sheep, they can earn  just enough income  to buy the school material for their child.
